Let Dalkeith’s dark and sometimes deadly secrets unfold as you prowl the streets and narrow closes on an evening guided walking tour.

The tours begin at the entrance to Dalkeith Country Park, better known to locals as The Dukes Gates, and then meander up the wide High Street, stopping at The Corn Exchange, the Tolbooth, High School Close then into the churchyard of St Nicholas before heading down the hill towards Bridgend and then up Sale Brae to the Watch Tower!

Religious persecution, family feuds and a desire for riches could make men into monsters and dark deeds were perpetrated! Join us if you dare!

Not all Dalkeith’s history was dark and deadly. Its proximity to Edinburgh ensured a steady stream of both notable and notorious personalities! There are links to Robert Burns, Robert Adam, John Kay and, on the darker side, Burke and Hare!

Even on a dark, not necessarily deadly, evening – there is more to Dalkeith than meets the eye – come with us and find out more! We are sure you will not be disappointed.

Tours end in the Museum with a warm welcome, more stories about Dalkeith and refreshments and a glass of wine to calm any shattered nerves.

Not suitable for children.
